Our Story

We're not really sure when Down River started but its origins began among a group of friends, known as the Ottawa Valley Canoeing & Drinking Team, who started paddling the whitewater rivers of Ontario and Quebec about 30 years ago. Mike and Pat started drumming and strumming and singing covers of some of our favourite songs. Soon Bob joined in on harp and with Mike on bass, an acoustic camp-fire trio called Pat and the Prostates formed. But it wasn't until we drew Doug in on drums and Carl decided to pick up the lead guitar after a 30-year hiatus that Down River took shape and we began to truly explore our musical roots.
